HIV Drug Side Effects
Please note:Currently, most ARV regimens are well-tolerated, therefore adverse effects must be discussed with your doctor immediately and investigated if they do not behave as expected with a new drug. Many signs of HIV disease progression, opportunistic infections or malignancies need to be considered in a differential diagnosis which may include drug adverse effects. Please refer to the patient information leaflet for the HIV medications you are taking for an overview of expected adverse reactions. Please note also that adverse effects are not limited to anti-retroviral therapy, but can also be associated with over-the-counter medications and herbal products.HIV medications can have side effects which are described in the patient information leaflet of the label. Some may be nothing more than a minor inconvenience, while others may interrupt your daily routine or affect your quality of life by making you feel anxious, nauseous, or fatigued. Some side effects may affect your overall health. It is important to keep your doctor informed about how you are feeling and how you are tolerating your HIV medications. There may be simple steps you can take to relieve minor side effects. When a HIV medications causes severe side effects, your doctor may be able to prescribe treatments to combat them or they may suggest changing your treatment regimen. Educate yourself about your HIV medication so that you are aware of the side effects and drug interactions that may occur. That way, you'll know what to expect.
